How do you come to be a sommelier at the award-winning Stüva restaurant in the gourmet Hotel Yscla?
I started working as a receptionist in Hotel Yscla in autumn 2008. Benjamin and I got together in the same year. From 2011 to 2012, I completed my training as a sommelier in Innsbruck. In November 2017, I successfully passed the first examination to be a master sommelier. As far as I know, there are currently two master sommeliers in Austria, and I’d like to be the third person to bear the title by the end of 2018.
Was a career in tourism always on the cards for you?
Yes, that was definitely what I wanted to do as a career, probably due to working in my mother’s guesthouse from an early age.
What educational path did you take then?
I passed my school leaving certificate at the tourism college in Bludenz.
What are the prerequisites for being the partner of a highly decorated gourmet chef?
Blind trust and understanding on both sides, if only because of the working hours during the season.
How do you spend your limited free time during the winter season?
Definitely apart from one another. Benjamin goes snowboarding, I go skiing in our wonderful ski region on the Idalpe. Then in the summer we have more time to spend together, and we’re often out and about with our mountain bikes.
