A night of superlatives for all cross-country skiers: at the first Nordic Night Race on 5 April in Galtür, anyone and everyone has the chance to compete against Austria’s cross-country elite. Galtür’s first Nordic Night Race takes place on 5 April. Hobby skiers and professionals can take each other on – and there’s a children’s race, too. All the information you need in one place:
The first Galtür Nordic Night Race takes place on 5 April 2018 in the centre of Galtür. Qualification starts at 18.30. Around 22.00, the winner of the sprint race should be known. There is a prize of 7 900 euros.
Anyone over the age of 15 can enter the main race, which is particularly interesting because Olympians Dominik Baldauf and Teresa Stadlober will take part, as well as Austrian Ski Federation professionals David Pommer and Urban Lentsch, and the former combined athlete Christoph Bieler. There is a children’s race for children between the ages of 12 and 15 (born in 2006, with the cut-off date of 5 April 2018).
The race structure
Qualifications begin at 18.30: each participant sprints freestyle along the 500m course in the centre of town. The 16 fastest men and 16 fastest women will then compete in the final race. It begins at 20.00 and takes place over two rounds of the course, or 1 000m, in a knockout competition. The final children’s race takes place at 19.30. There will be only one winner here, by the way.
And what happens if there isn’t any snow left?
Galtür is prepared for this – a snow depot has been created
There is a free shuttle bus service in Paznaun – you can find all the details here.
It doesn’t cost anything to take part, but the number of participants is limited.
